Despite the expectancy atmosphere in Geneva, SIHH was luckily no disappointment for technical watches aficionados that had a wide choice of innovative and amazing mechanisms. In full award season (the Grammys and BAFTA just ended and Oscars are around the corner), DespreCeasuri proposes a top 5 most innovative watches from SIHH. And for the love of suspense, here is number 5 – Greubel Forsey.
Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Contemporain
Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey appetite for horological architecture in three-dimensions materialized this year with Tourbillon 24 Secondes Contemporain, a unique edition of 33 pieces featuring a titanium movement and platinum case. The spatial management of the components is amazing and the tourbillon is both technical and visually impressive. The transparent synthetic sapphire tourbillon bridge gives the impression of the regulator floating in mid-air. This timepiece houses Greubel Forsey’s third fundamental invention, the Tourbillon 24 Secondes - a fast-rotating – 24-second revolution – tourbillon cage inclined at 25 ° which minimises negative effects of gravity on the oscillator, particularly in stable positions. The movement comprises 267 components, 88 for the tourbillon cage which weighs 0.39 grams and is powered by two coaxial mainspring barrels in series that provide a power reserve of 72 hours. The oscillator features a variable inertia balance with Phillips terminal curve beating at 3Hz / 21,600 APH. The timepiece catches one’s eye due to the royal blue finish of the titanium movement achieved through a special oxidation process. And yes, this watch is part of the category “stars” better looking in reality than in pictures.
